Tylee and I had a wonderful baby shower on May 1st. I can't believe that before long she'll be here. It's a little weird to think this will be my last baby/pregnancy ever! Thanks to my wonderful friends and family. You truly are the best!

Trip to McCall

We decided to schedule our last family of three vacation and headed to McCall for the weekend. We stayed at the Wyndham resort again and had a great time. I had been having a lot of contractions so a weekend of relaxtion was just what I needed.

One year ago, I received the call that Trenton had a tumor in his chest which lead to a 6 hour surgery, multiple days in PICU and weeks at home in recovery. Looking back, I thank god we made it. Trenton is healthy and doing well. We're still running tests on his thyroid but nothing that is life threatening.
One year ago, Brett was unemployed. We thought this was the end of the world. Funny how things are put into perspective. I guess we needed a reminder that things happen for a reason. He now loves his job and it is so much better for his stress level and for our family.
One year ago we weren't even thinking about adding to our family. Now here I am almost 7 months pregnant and awaiting the arrival of our baby girl, Tylee Lynn. Trenton is ecstatic to have a baby sister and I couldn't be happier. A couple more months and I'll be holding that sweet girl in my arms.
I wonder where we"ll be one year from now...

So I've been busy painting as you can see and it is now finished. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I still have some work to do but we are well on our way.

Vatoo thinks this room is his. Before long he'll be kicked out (of the room that is)!

I just love the way it turned out. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I did start over several times but I'm gald I did. The flowers weren't easy but they turned out great.

The blanket on the changing table was my baby blanket. I plan to pass it on just as we did by giving Brett's baby blanket to Trenton (which he adores).

The bedding is adorable. It's hard to tell but the pattern on the lamp shade is flowers just like I did on the wall. So fun! Tylee we're just about ready for you!

Sledding in McCall

Baby Girl!!

After our two unsucessful trips to Dr. Christensen's office to find out the gender, we decided to go to Fetal Fotos to give it a try. I must say that it was absolutely the best use of our money. During the ultrasound, (which we now have a s a DVD), we confirmed it's a girl, watched her move around like crazy, she yawned, stretched, waved at us, and sucked on her tongue. It was the neatest experience and Brett, Trenton and I were thrilled to see such an active baby. No wonder I feel her moving all the time.

I'd never taken a tour of the fire station before and I must say it was very neat. The background in this picture is a mural painted in the fireman's classroom. They were all so excited.

Here are the latest pics of the little munchkin growing inside me. We had hoped to find out the sex today but are still questioning it. Although Trenton is convinced it's a sister, we didn't get a good shot of the goods. We'll check again. Baby appears to have all the pieces and parts and I just started feelingit move. Very exciting!

Brett and I spent a weekends painting both Trenton and the baby's room brown. Then I went back and with Erin's help drew on the camo and I finished painting it last weekend. It looks great and was a nice compromise since he wanted his walls painted blue. We bought him blue camo bedding too so he's all camo'd out. It was fun to paint and we are all happy with it.

New Years in McCall

This year we rented a condo in McCall for a week. We left the day after Christmas and had a wonderful time. I spent most of my days curled up the couch in front of the fireplace reading when we weren't swimming at the pool, sledding or playing. Brett had the opportunity to snowboard at Brundage in several inches of new powder and Trenton learned to swim without floaties.

Kelly and Tommy arrived a few days ago and as always Trenton is having a great time. They did call to let us know they now have 3 dogs instead of 2. Did I mention that the newest addition is a 2 month old puppy named Sixx Gun? Oh yes, they neamed her after a song. We are pleased they are naming dogs and not children. Although it's a little crazy in our house, we are enjoying their company and looking forward to Christmas morning.

Baby Nicholson December 14, 2009. Baby looks good and is growing rapidly. What a blessing!

It's official! Trenton is going to be a big brother and he is soooo excited. We let him tell all our family about the BIG surprise. He said, "We have a surprise. There's a baby in my mommy's tummy". No one was sure whether they should believe a three year old but we did confirm he was telling the truth. Ever since the big news, at least once a day he asks if my tummy is bigger yet. He makes me laugh.
We had this conversation a few mornings ago.
Trenton: "When the baby comes someone will get to be a big brother."
Me: "You're right do you know who the big brother will be?"
Trenton: "No, who?"
Me: "You get to be the big brother!"
Trenton: "I do?! That is so exciting!"

He's been asking for a brother or sister for a year now and it is finally going to happen. Now the struggle will be for him to wait all the way until July.

Trenton's been saying for months that he wanted to be a red eye tree frog. Thankfully the costume existed so I didn't have to attemot to make one which would have been a disaster. He loved wearing the costume and had a great time trick or treating. The worst part was having to take away all the candy with peanuts which turned out to be quite a bit!

So, here we are at the St. Luke's surgery center to make the hole on the tip of Trenton's penis longer. We thought the boy just got amazing height and distance when he peed but it turns out the hole isn't big enough and that's why he has to sit when he pees (or it hits the ceiling). Who knew?

We're so happy you are still alive. Trenton was ecstatic when he found you in the yard today. You are such a brave little frog to stay in our yard. Didn't you know he would find you again? CT Scan number 2

We returned to St. Lukes Hospital on Monday August 3, 2009 for Trenton's ultrasound of his thyroid. He did a great job and held still like a good little patient.

The unfortunate part of the trip...the last time we were at the hospital they referred to the growth as a on his thyroid as a nodule. This time they called it a tumor and it has doubled in size in four months. Probably means surgery but we'll know more next week.

He's so cute! (And yes, I know I am biased).

What happened to Mr. Frog?

Okay, let me start by saying I was trying to save his life! When Trenton catches frogs we keep them for 3-4 days, feed them spiders, crickets, or grasshoppers, and then let them go in our yard. It was first thing in the morning and time to let Mr. Frog go. Trenton, the king negotiator, asked for 5 more minutes to play with him and I agreed (my first mistake). A few minutes later he called and said he needed my help. He had put Mr.Frog inside this rocket.

The rocket as you can see is about an inch in diameter so the frog was totally stuck. I decided to help him (mistake #2). We tried to shake him out, pull him out, nothing was working so I thought I would cut the rocket (mistake #3). The tip of the rocket was solid so I started at the top and cut horizontally and inched my way down. Soon enough I slit the throat of the frog as he was stretch out--I thought he was scrunched in a ball. EEWW... I screamed, Trenton screamed, and the frog gulped for air. Amazingly, the frog was still alive and didn't seem too injured although he lost a few toes as well. He hopped away looking for his mommy and daddy according to Trenton. What's worse is Trenton and his friend found him 24 hours later and he didn't look quite so well. I probably should have put him out of his misery and now I know for next time. When we told Brett what happened he said, "why didn't you cut the rocket vertically and then rip the rocket to get him out?" Hmm...I never thought of that but thanks for the great advice for next time. So sorry Mr. Frog!

Surgery Update

Trenton had the tumor removed successfully. It was a mature teratoma and was benign thank goodness. We should not need to visit the cancer unit or the Oncologist again. Deep breath. The teratoma has probably been growing in his chest since he was in utero. Teratoma's generally come from another baby-oh yes at some point I was probably pregnant with twins but the other never fully developed. Teratoma's usually have bits of hair, nail and bone fragments and this was true with Trenton's too. Crazy, I know. Now we wait for August when he will have another CT Scan to be sure everything is working properly and the tumor is fully gone. He will also have an ultrasound on his thyroid as they found a nodule in the original CT Scan. This probably means another surgery but should be less intrusive than the first.

Look at that smile and all those friends in bedwith him. He was a bit unhappy when he first woke up but he settled fairly quickly and we watched a lot of movies.

Surgery Pics

Trenton in ICU after surgery. The bear next to him and the green blanket he is laying on were gifts from the hospital. The bear is a build-a-bear and Miranda helped him put a diaper, hospital gown, and mask on him before surgery. They were dressed the same. It made him feel more comfortable.

Ooh..I told them when they put the diaper on him that he would not be happy when he woke up. Just for the record, I was right!

Although these are not my favorite pictures, I think it's important to document this time in our lives for Trenton in the future.

Trenton's Surgery

What happened? In March 2009 I took Trenton to the doc in the box on a Saturday for pink eye and we left with several prescriptions for pnemonia. The doctor decided to take X-rays as he thought Trenton had pnemonia. WHAT? I felt like mother of the year. Yes, he had a cough but I in no way thought it was more serious.

April 2, 2009: Two weeks later I received a call from the radiologists office who had reviewed the X-rays. She stated they found a mass in Trenton's chest and needed to call our pediatrician immediately. Note to all you doctors out there...Before giving news such as this...tell the person on the other end of the phone to sit down! After a few hysterical minutes I called the doctor, Brett and left work. Deep breath...An hour later we headed to St. Lukes hospital for another X-ray and CT Scan to confirm the mass. It was confirmed. Our pediatrician, Katherine Stevens, who is fantastic, met us at the hospital to help us with our options. We decided to head home for the night and would meet with the surgeon the next day. I'm not sure we slept but we did go home.

April 3, 2009: Called the surgeon and was told he'd call back in 10 minutes. 2 hours later we grabbed our swimsuits and headed to Brett's parents to sit in the hot tub. We were going crazy at home waiting for the phone to ring. On the way, the surgeon called and asked us to meet him at the hospital. We met with him and the Oncologist over the next 4 hours and it was determined Trenton needed surgery now. He was admitted onto the pediatric oncology floor (which completely freaked us out). Surgery was scheduled for 6:00 pm.

5:00 pm: We were playing in the waiting room with many family members and friends and they showed up for pre-op. We said our goodbys and headed downstairs. Trenton did a great job. I attempted to pay attention and tried to act as if I wasn't upset. Not an easy thing to do.

6:00 pm: Surgery--it would be a 2-2 and a half hour surgery and someone would update us as to how he was doing. I won't go into the details of the thoughts that went through my head during this time but I would like to thank all our loved ones who offered their support either by sitting with us, calling, or bringing food.

8:30 pm: No word yet. We were waiting on pins and needles to hear that our baby was fine.

9:00 pm: Finally, a nurse comes out to let us know he's doing fine but the tumor had wrapped itself around his trachea so they were having to chip the calcium deposits away one little bit at a time. They expected it to take a few more hours.

1:30 am: We received word that they were ready to close Trenton up and since he had been open and on life support for so long they would be taking him to ICU. Our friends and family headed home for some rest.

2:30 am: Dr. Curnow, our amazing surgeon, came out to let us know Trenton was fine but had been through a very traumatic surgery. He would be in ICU at least a few days. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Me: Only when we are camping.

Trenton: Why can't I pee on trees at home?

Me: Because we have bathrooms.

I'm learning to use the saw to help daddy gather wood for the campfire.

For being 3 years old, we really were impressed at his patience for fishing. It must be in his blood. This fishing adventure lasted hours and Trenton threw a fit when it was time to leave.

So, Trenton did not catch a fish but Brett caught a large mouth bass and as you can see they are both very proud. They did throw the fish back into the pond even though I wanted to keep it. There is nothing better than fresh bass for dinner especially when Brett cooks it. Next time...

We found this pond where we were told it was very easy to catch fish. So far not the case but they are both still smiling.

Swimming Lessons

He learned the ice cream scoop and the pizza stroke. Meghan is lucky she only had 3 kids.

Trenton had a very nice instructor named Meghan. She had the pleasure of attempting to get Trenton to follow directions. Not an easy task!

Summer Fun

I'm going to attempt to review the past few months. We've had an eventful summer so far and have lots of pictures to prove it. Currently, I'm on vacation from work and have the pleasure of spending my days with Trenton while Brett is at work. Brett just started a new job at Prestige, an adult living facility. He's the Food and Beverage Director-sounds fancy doesn't it? He's the Chef of his kitchen (something he's been wanting for a long time). I'm super proud of him but know he'a a little jealous that I'm spending the days with our boy while he's up and out of the house by 5:15 everyday. Love ya babe! We are thrilled that we do get our weekends off together and we might actually make it to a BSU football game this year because he won't have to work at them.
